Townes
Consulting & Psychological Services, LLC is a solo practice and consulting firm
founded by Dr. Darryl L. Townes, Licensed Psychologist.
As a psychologist, I am committed
to providing quality mental healthcare to those who are
traditionally underserved as well as mainstream
populations. As a solo practitioner, the office is not
staffed with someone who can help you in case of an
emergency. However, you can call me directly if an
emergency situation exists.
In case you are unable to reach me during an emergency,
you may be directed to go to the nearest
hospital emergency room (ER) and notify them of your
problem, and contact me by saying that “This is an
emergency and the nature of your emergency.”

Multicultural Counseling
Approach
•Accepts
the existence of multiple worldviews. Each culture is
unique and must be understood in itself and not by
reference to any other culture.
•It is a philosophy of
counseling and psychotherapy that believes that
behavior can only be understood within the context of
its occurrence.
•All worldviews or
theories of counseling are allowed to exist under the
same umbrella, even if they posit diametrically
opposed principles.
•Diverse worldviews or
theories provide different perspectives of the same
phenomenon.
Each perspective captures a different and
valid view.
Townes
Consulting & Psychological Services, LLC
adheres to the American Psychological
Association Code of Ethics and to Georgia State law
governing the provision of mental health services. You
should be aware that there are basic exceptions
when information may be released in accordance
with ethical code and law.
Privileged
Communication
Privileged Communication is a
legal right granted by state and federal
law. It protects clients from having their disclosures
to the psychologist revealed during legal proceedings
without their informed consent. Information shared by you
will be treated confidentially. Any disclosure outside of
the therapy setting will be done only with your written
permission except as set forth below.

Referrals
For
those needing a referral, I have a number of psychiatrists
that I collaborate with and can provide referrals as
needed. For all patients, I will provide a crisis response
plan, detailing steps to take during a crisis. This will
include the phone number and address of the local
emergency room.
Sometimes
I am in session and I cannot return phone calls
immediately. Accordingly, it’s important for you to follow
your crisis response plan when needed or indicated.
If you have need for periodic phone contact, we’ll discuss
a specific plan in more detail.
Confidentiality
Confidentiality is an ethical practice – the obligation never to reveal information obtained in the
assessment or professional relationship without specific
consent from the client. It protects you, the client,
from unauthorized disclosures of information given in
confidence to me as your psychologist.
Exceptions to Confidentiality
Confidentiality is not
absolute. There are very specific cases where
confidentiality could be broken. Such as, when you are in imminent
danger of harming yourself. When you are in danger of
harming someone and there is an identifiable victim. When I, as your psychologist was appointed by the courts to
evaluate you. You are under the age of 16 years and
are the victim of a crime. If a minor is currently the
victim of child abuse, child neglect, child sexual abuse.
You are a minor and your
psychologist reasonably suspects you are the victim of child
abuse. You are over the age of 65 and your psychologist
believes you are the victim of physical abuse. When
court ordered by a judge. When permission is granted
in writing by you, the client.
